Accidental Refresh

Life has been busy the last couple of weeks with preparation for visiting family and then the actual visit. When I decided what could be sacrificed, I was surprised to realize I could do without writing for a bit. For one thing, my mind was on other matters, and for another, my brain needed a break from forming sentences and paragraphs on the page. It was hard enough to form them for conversations.

Sometimes we need an accidental refresh of our creativity. It wasn’t that my brain wasn’t creating at all. No, my mind was as creative as ever, but I just needed a break to deal with more practical matters. I still thought of business ideas and storylines, and I added some study time to my weeks to learn the variety of ways other writers make a living.

Life has a way of interfering with our best laid plans, and it is okay to take the time when we need it. For creative individuals, we might struggle with regular schedules and even sleep patterns. Our minds may keep us up until odd hours of the night, and we may do our best creating while other people are getting deep sleep. Even so, we need to refresh ourselves on occasion by walking away from what we do. We don’t lose our passion. We just need breathing room so we can come back and appreciate it all over again.

Take advantage of the accidental breaks, and recharge your creative battery. Don’t punish yourself when life gets busy. The keyboard, paintbrush, sewing machine, yarn, and other tools will be there when you get back. Go breathe, live, laugh, and enjoy the moment. The creativity will be waiting when you return.

Inspirational Verses for the Day:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. (Psalm 23:1-3, NKJV)
