Maybe it’s getting older. Maybe it’s because I’ve done this so many times before that I’m tired of repeating it. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m sick of seeing myself overweight when I look in the mirror. Maybe I’m just more determined than before. Whatever the reason, I’m sticking with my decision to eat healthier and exercise more.

I’m not using any special plans, and the only apps I’m utilizing are free versions of My Fitness Pal and Samsung Health. I track my menu plan and exercise. I know there are all kinds of ideas and plans for how to lose weight, but the more complicated the process, the more likely I am to quit. I prefer to keep it simple. Since this basic method has always worked for me in the past when I stuck with it, I’m sticking with the simple plan that I know.
My method may take longer to work, but it means I’m learning the best way to eat and exercise that keeps my goals consistent. This time I’m using progress as a form of encouragement. When the numbers on the scale go down, I cheer myself on, and it means I look at my food and exercise differently. I pick what I eat and do based on long-term goals. Progress pushes me to monitor the numbers so I stick to the plan.
The older I get, the more I realize that meeting goals matters to me. Getting healthier matters to me. Having a better quality of life in the future because of my choices now matters to me. I use my progress to encourage myself as I work toward my end goal and then maintenance after that. If you are making progress, celebrate it, and then use it to keep yourself moving forward toward your goals. [208.4]

Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, CSB)
