Keys to Success: Just Get Started

Are you a list person? Do you like to plan everything in minute detail? Do you want everything in just the right order before you begin? Has planning ever kept you from completing a project?

I can honestly say that I have suffered from “overplanning syndrome” in the past, and I finally realized that sometimes you just need to get started. Stop worrying about perfect planning. Let the details take care of themselves. Otherwise, you may never complete your goal.

There is always a time and place for planning, but don’t plan at the expense of getting things done. Writing from personal experience, I’ve wasted too much time on strategy in the past. Now, I begin by asking just how much planning is necessary versus when I just need to dive in and do the work. I still keep lists to help me organize my thoughts, but I no longer place a stressful amount of emphasis on them.

Find the balance for your projects between planning and actively working on them. All the planning in the world won’t actually complete the project. Completion comes from actively working on the tasks you have planned. Take it from someone who’s failed more times than she cares to admit because of overplanning. Plan what you need, and then work to get it done.

Inspirational Verse for the Day:

I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6, CSB)
