Keys to Success: Controlled Growth

There are times when plans just come to us at lightning speed. We fill notebooks or note apps with ideas for what we want to do. Our creativity is functioning at peak levels. Then we start trying to do it all. Alas, crash and burn follow. We take on too much, and we fail. But it’s okay. Just let it serve as a lesson.

A couple of years ago, I decided to do a daily blog post for the month of February (because it had the fewest days in it). I learned quickly that writing a daily blog post was unsustainable for my schedule. With family responsibilities and job duties, I discovered there was a finite amount of time I could devote to researching and writing blog posts. I had to use my common sense and figure out what kind of writing schedule worked for me. I developed a mindset of controlled growth.

I didn’t give up on my ideas, but I did set them aside. I have developed a writing schedule that works for me at present, and even now, I sometimes fail to post because other things take precedence. It’s also because I’m still learning how to work ahead. I plan to carry out my other ideas, but I’ve learned to control the growth of my work. I don’t want to experience writer’s block or burnout by pushing out so much content that I get tired of writing. Instead, I’m focused on creating good content on my current blogs, and when I feel like they are doing well enough, I will launch other blogs. Until then, I’m putting pieces in place by writing content for those blogs to publish upon launching. It is all part of my controlled growth plan.

It is a wonderful feeling to have so many ideas on which to build, but it’s easy to overwhelm yourself trying to do it all at one time. Believe in your ideas, but decide on a plan of growth that allows you to create quality content as you grow and develop those concepts. A plan of controlled growth is about knowing when to say eventually but not right now. Controlled growth means it will come when it is time.

Inspirational Verses for the Day:

Those who are wise will find a time and a way to do what is right, for there is a time and a way for everything, even when a person is in trouble. (Ecclesiastes 8:5-6, NLT)
