Several years ago, I was blessed to teach a children’s Sunday School class, and later, I was blessed again to teach a teen Sunday School class. Both opportunities helped me to learn about children, teenagers, other adults, myself, the Bible, and God. It was stressful and rewarding, and it helped me grow as a person. I learned what would and wouldn’t hold the attention of different age groups. I learned that I love the way people light up when they learn something new, and I learned that knowledge is usually better when shared.
When I worked in libraries, I was given an opportunity to teach basic computer classes for a while. I also had the opportunity to train new employees and even my own replacements as I moved from job to job. I still enjoy teaching people especially about my favorite interests, but I learned that people learn best when they are also interested in a topic. It’s best not to force a subject matter but find a way to present it that interests everyone.
As a blogger, I like to think of myself as a knowledge distributor. I have learned different things over the years, and I enjoy sharing it with others. I explain my experiences so that others can recognize when someone has been through the same thing as themselves. If something I share helps someone else, then writing about it is worth the effort. Sharing experiences and knowledge is an important part of my writing, and I often find that I continue to learn during the process.
To be honest, writing didn’t start as a way for me to share my experiences. My blog started as a place for me to unload, but eventually, that didn’t feel like enough. My previous experience helped me see how much I enjoy sharing knowledge with others, and it gave purpose to my writing. That is how my blog became a place to land for other writers and people going through a career change.
Do you have a skill that grew from helping others? Think about ways you have leveraged that skill in your career. Ask yourself how you can use it in a new job or career field. You might even discover a new purpose that drives you to continue developing that skill.

Inspirational Verses for the Day:
In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us. (Titus 2:6-8, NLT)
