Monday mornings usually start the same way. After coffee and devotions, I look at last week’s goal list and check off the completed items, and I record any pertinent information on the weekly pages of my planner. Then I make a new list for the current week. I perform some online tasks, check email, and work on blog posts for the week. These are small tasks, but they start my week off right.
Earlier this year, I wrote about finding consistency in writing and scheduling my weekly blog posts. As of right now, I’ve been posting on my scheduled day for both blogs for almost five months. It is finally feeling like a regular part of my weekly work schedule. I’m still working on picking the time of day that I post of one of my blogs, but except for one time in the past several months, it is posted by the end of the chosen day.
In the past, I’ve been a creature of habit because I work best that way, but I’ve found myself operating more on an “as needed” basis during this year of career transition. It has stretched my faith and my abilities. I’m finding that I’m more adaptable than I thought, but ironically, it comes back to the fact that I’m a creature of habit. When the small things are taken care of, I feel better about doing unexpected things. I’m not perfect at it, but I keep chipping away at the small things and expanding my adaptability.
If you are starting a small business or changing careers, adaptability will be key so make certain that you take care of the small things each day. It makes for a smoother day, and when unexpected events occur, you’re not left reeling from being behind in necessary activities on top of the unexpected events. If you’re wondering where to begin, start with the small things that you know must be done. Before you know it, you’ll be knocking out the big things, too.
