Last week as a waited for some news, I struggled to settle consistently upon one task for very long. I completed a lot of short individual tasks, and I spent time with family and friends which was very refreshing. However, I had little interest in blogging. What was that song title? Mama Said (There’d Be Days Like This). (Check out The Shirelles on YouTube!)
Last night, I decided to try something new. One way to learn is just by diving in headfirst instead of waiting until you have all the information. I used to waste so much time planning, and then I would find that I ran out of time to accomplish the thing I wanted to do. Worse, I would lose interest in the thing because I wasted so much time planning. I try not to do that anymore. Now I just dive in and begin. Yesterday, I found some great inspiration from Morgan on His Daughter’s Closet. Being a faith-based writer, I needed some positivity, and she provided it in her YouTube video, “Start Your Christian Blog: How to Start a Blog.”
I know that technically I’ve been blogging since 2016, but I’m only now developing consistency. I just needed to hear someone else’s perspective, and she was so inspiring because it gave me hope that it’s okay to write while I’m still polishing out the rough spots. I’m learning as I go.
Every time I’ve started a new job, there’s always been a learning curve, and becoming a freelance writer is no different. It’s only a different type of learning curve. I’m not learning someone else’s how-tos. I’m learning my own how-tos. Even if being a freelance writer doesn’t work out, I’m learning so many new skills that I can carry into a new career field. I infinitely prefer applied learning to textbook/theoretical learning in the classroom.
I encourage you to keep expanding your knowledge base whether you’re changing careers or not. Learn something new every day. AARP has written about the importance of lifelong learning for growth and maintaining a healthy brain. Go search on Google Scholar, and you will find so many academic journal articles on the importance of lifelong learning. No matter where your career is headed, learning is valuable for you personally whether you learn how to crochet, how to bake, how to design stained glass windows, or how to create online content like blogs, videos, podcasts, or webinars. The key is to keep those synapses firing. Never stop learning because you never know when that new skill might come in handy.

Inspirational Verses for the Day:
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8, NKJV)
