Okay, so really all I want to know is how to improve the old posts on my blog, but it is a little more like how do I salvage old posts instead of getting rid of them? I didn’t set out to learn how to do that. I was just skimming through YouTube like I always do, and I found a video from Niche Pursuits. Check out the video “I Tried Publishing 1,000 Blog Posts in 12 Months…”. The content creator discussed how he went back and improved his old content and created a ton of new content to drive even more people to his already successful site. It was his discussion of cleaning up old content that caught my attention.
I have been blogging VERY intermittently since 2016, but a lot of people don’t want to go back and read all your old content even if they’re reading your new content. In his video, this creator talks about going back to edit old content and referencing old content to drive people to read it. I like that idea because I’m really satisfied with some of my old content, and I’d like for new people to enjoy it by making it easy for them to go back and look at it a bit at a time by referencing it in new content. He also points out that it’s a good idea to check your old links to be sure they aren’t broken. My editing instincts are running at the highest gear right now.
I also like the idea of going back to look at old content to see if there are things that I really don’t want up anymore. For instance, the rule I try to use now is not to tell someone else’s story without his or her permission. I really want to go back and make certain that some of my original content doesn’t violate my own rule because I wasn’t following that rule then.
I love sharing what I’ve learned from other people like Niche Pursuits, and I hope you’ll check out the video. It’s a bit more in-depth than I’m interested in going right now, but the content definitely got my brain spinning while trying to figure out what I could use from his suggestions. I also like the idea of introducing new readers to my older content. Just because content is older doesn’t mean that it isn’t good content so I want to go back and look for throwback posts to introduce to new people. I just found these suggestions so helpful that I wanted to pass them on to other bloggers. Happy editing!
